Parents of 8th Graders: OHM BOCES Career & Technical Education Center to Host Fourth Annual 8th Grade Activity Day Jan. 17, 2013 (New Hartford, N.Y.) – Approximately 200 eighth grade students will be in attendance at this year’s Eighth Grade Activity Day on Jan. 27, 2014. The event is hosted by the School and Business Alliance in collaboration with the Career and Technical Education Center. The fourth annual activity day will include students from Oriskany, Clinton, Westmoreland and Donovan Middle School in Utica. From 8:30-10:50 a.m., students will have an opportunity to participate in a range of interactive class exercises and hands-on lab activities related to various career and technology fields. The program is designed to provide information about career training classes offered in high school, job opportunities in Central New York and how courses taken in school are relevant in the interest of college and post-secondary training. Students may choose to participate in two workshops from an extensive list that includes Animal Science, Auto Body, Culinary Arts, Early Childhood Education, Criminal Justice, Emerging Technologies and Cyber Security, and the Construction Trades. The Career and Technical Education Center offers more than 30 programs, including nine New Visions programs, to the OHM BOCES’ 12 component school districts: Brookfield, Clinton, Holland Patent, New York Mills, New Hartford, Oriskany, Remsen, Sauquoit Valley, Utica, Waterville, Westmoreland and Whitesboro.
