Park City Sunrise Rotary Club recently hosted its seventh annual holiday party for the children of the greater Park City area. This eagerly-anticipated event, held this year on Wednesday, December 10 at Park City High School, was attended by approximately 530 children and their parents. With donations from Park City Sunrise Rotary and Park City Rotary Club members, along with other friends and organizations, the two local Rotary clubs provided a wrapped gift for every child in attendance. Gifts were distributed to each child by a bi-lingual Santa, after which attendees enjoyed food donated through the generosity and hard work of Done to Your Taste Catering. Many of these kids didnt open their gift at the party, choosing to save it under the tree, because they say this may be the only gift they get for Christmas, says Ericka Wells, founder of the event and VP of Programs for Big Brothers / Big Sisters of Utah. “These 220 families represent the growing population of low-income residents in the workforce who struggle with time and resources needed to provide for their children, especially during the busy holiday season.” About half of Sunrise Rotary Club members, along with their families, friends and nearly 90 student volunteers from South Summit Interact, Park City High School Latinos in Action and Morgan Interact Club, contributed in some way. Holy Cross Ministries, Kimball Arts Center Young Artists Academy and Mountainlands Community Housing brought crafts and games for the party. Many other organizations played a role in the success of the event, including financial support from Wrona, Gordon and DuBois Law Firm and Laser Law Office. This annual event, originated in 2008 as a party specifically for the kids in the Parkside Apartments on Kearns Boulevard, has grown year-by-year to include the entire Park City School District. Wells, a member of Park City Sunrise Rotary, conceived the event as a way to bring a little holiday cheer to Park City’s children in need. Park City Sunrise Rotary would like to express gratitude for all those who helped make this another wonderfully successful event through contributions of gifts, money and countless volunteer hours. Cheers to all for a happy and prosperous New Year.
