Parks Victoria Chief Executive Bill Jackson and Tourism Greater Geelong Executive Director Roger Grant were joined by dive industry representatives today to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the opening of one of Australia’s best diving experiences - the ex-HMAS Canberra. A former warship that served the Australian Navy between 1981 and 2005, the ex-HMAS Canberra is the first artificial reef in Victoria created specifically for diving off. The site was opened on 5 December 2009 and now lies in approximately 28 metres of water off the coast of Ocean Grove in Bass Strait and is providing some exciting opportunities for diving enthusiasts. Over time the ex-HMAS Canberra wreck has become a haven for marine life and transformed the ship into a spectacular reef.
