Parson to Person “…the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus. To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily.” Colossians 1:26–29 (NKJV) For many Christians, the concept of Christ being in the believer is not much more than being born again. The expression, “Ask Jesus into your heart” has been a standard in Christian speak for years. However, not only is “asking Jesus into your heart” a weak description of what it means to be a genuine believer, the idea is only expressed in Scripture indirectly - and then only twice. The better expression would be that trusting Christ for salvation and surrendering to Him, is the call to every man, and is the experience of every believer. Christ in you means that the dead lives we lived before being born again have been exchanged for the vitality of the living God.His life in us; transforming every true believer from within - every minute of every day. All that we were without Christ is dead and gone. All that we are - in Him - is daily being formed and made into the image of Jesus. All that the Father has promised to those who have trusted Christ for salvation He will accomplish. No believer will arrive at the finished result of the Father’s work this side of eternity. However, every believer who lives in surrender will be formed and made to be more and more like Christ without the need of unnecessary delay and “hard knocks.” As believers, we are gifted with the power of the Holy Spirit who takes us from within and writes the very nature into our being and upon our hearts that we may be a “work” of God, designed from within. This is the very thing communicated by the phrase, “we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus”. The Greek word used for “workmanship” is “Poiema” and is where we get the word poem. We are Christ’s poem, and he is writing daily into our lives. How wonderful it is to know that God is working in us. I love you all, Pastor Paul
