Part 2 Evolution vs God (Interviewer) When u say change of kinds, Do u mean the evolution of one species from another or to another? (Interviewee) Yes, we have that in action, actually, in the Galapagos. (Interviewer) Could u give me one instance? (Interviewee) Yes, we have an example from a group of birds called Darwins finches. You take a look at the difference between the finches on the islands that all started out, I mean, thats very,very observable. (Interviewer) But thats not Darwinian evolution. Theres been no change of kinds. What have the finches become? (Interviewee) They become genetically new & anatomically new, recognizably different species. (Interviewer) So theyre still finches? (interviewee) Well, of course theyre still finches, yes. (Interviewer) So theres no change of kind... (Interviewee) Little birds that he had observed that-- (Interviewer) What did they become? (Interviewee) Their beaks, their beak shapes, theyre-- (Interviewer) Theyre still birds? (Interviewee) Yes. Three finches that turn into different types of birds, based on-- (Interviewer) Theyre still finches? (Interviewee) Well, for example, Darwin & his study on evolution of the birds on the island that he went onto there. (Interviewer) Their beaks changed? (Interviewee) Their beaks-- (Interviewer) But theyre still birds? Theres no change of kinds. Thats within the kind. (Interviewee) No,no,no its the beaks.. (Interviewer) But thats called adaptation? Thats not Darwinian evolution. Theres no change of kinds. Theres no different animal involved. I want something that shows me Darwins belief in the change of kinds is scientific. Darwin spoke of a change of kind. Can u think of any observable evidence for Darwinian evolution where theres a change of kind? (Interviewee) Change of kind, change of kind..(geology major brewing in mind) Im going to have to think about that one a little longer. (Interviewer) Can u give me anything that I can see, observe, and test, which is the scientific method, for Darwinian evolution, a change of kinds? (Interviewee) test & observe..(thinking...) (Interviewer) Could u give me observable evidence, which is the scientific method, for Darwinian evolution, a change of kinds? (Interviewee)(physicist) Cant think of any... okay, I got to think about it. So u want the evidence of it? I would say... (Sighing) I cannot, I think. (Environmental Science major student) its hard question, actually. So, can u repeat the question again? (Interviewer) (same question) Observable evidence, something where we dont have to exercise faith? Something that can be observed like the scientific process, observable? (Interviewee) thats a good question. That one Im not quite sure. (Interviewer) So u cant think of any observable evidence for evolution? (Interviewee) No. (Interviewer) how do u know its true? (Interviewee) Im not sure. (Interviewer) So Darwinian evolution is not observable? Its not scientific? (Interviewee) I guess so. (Interviewer) So its unscientific. You cant prove it. (Interviewee) it is scientific actually. You could prove it. It could be proven, just-- (Interviewer) do it for me. (Interviewee) (biology major student) ah, thats hard. I dont--thats just too broad of a-- (Interviewer) its un observable, thats why. You need millions of years. (Interviewee) yes, exactly. (Interviewer) youre trusting the biology majors and the biology professors know what theyre talking about, and they cant even give me evidence of a change of kinds. (Interviewee) well, then, there isnt one. (Chemistry major) if they dont give it, then I wouldnt say there was. I just go on what Ive see and what Ive learned from class. Interviewer) so u believe? (Interviewee) yeah (Interviewer) You know what thats called? (Interviewer) what? (Interviewer) blind faith.
