Part 2 of 2 of the 1949 Fairfield-Suisun video series. This video takes a look at various aspects of life in Fairfield-Suisun during 1949. We get a glimpse of some of the Industries that existed in this part of Solano County. Next we see the Fairfield-Suisun Army Air force Base that began construction in 1942 and later in 1951, was renamed to Travis Air Force Base in honor of Brig. General Travis. The next scene is about the Schools that existed in both cities. In Fairfield the schools were the Fairfield Primary school, Fairfield Grammar school, and Armijo High School. The Primary and Grammar Schools were located across from our home (the Flores Family home) at Delaware and Madison Street. Many of my sisters and brothers attended least two if not all three of these schools. The only school in Suisun City during 1949-50 time period was the Suisun City Elementary School. I Don’t know much about this school. Maybe one of my older siblings may know more. The final scene in Part 2 is a conversation about Armijo High School between the 3 remaining Flores Brothers, Chris, Abe, and Me (John) on December 21, 2014 at my Brother Chris’ Fairfield home. Keep in mind as you watch both parts of this video series that n 1950 Fairfield had the population of 3,100 people. The city limits boundaries were most likely at Pennsylvania St, Illinois St, Clay St, and Kentucky St – see the attached 1938 Block photo under my comment, because not much growth occurred in the city between 1938 and 1950. Today Fairfield is a different town in which we Flores grew up. The population according to the 2010 census is over 105,321 people. I hope you enjoy my 2 part video series.
