(Part 3/3) The Georgia Sea Turtle Center is a functioning turtle hospital - training veterinarians through university partnerships and treating a injured turtles brought to them from a variety of sources ranging from government agencies to private citizens... During a recent visit, Yupukari Turtle Project leads Jeff Slocum and Christina Slocum observed the different types of research and animal care provided by the center, which not only benefit the turtles in their care but also increases our general knowledge of the biology, ecology and behavior of turtles... Here you can see a yellow-bellied slider (Trachemys scripta scripta) and gopher tortoise (Gopherus polyphemus) in surgery, a necropsy of a Diamondback Terrapin (Malaclemys terrapin centrata) and turtle x-rays from an injured Loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta)...
