Part 36 Brian was wearing the biggest smile on his face; I - TopicsExpress

Part 36 Brian was wearing the biggest smile on his face; I haven’t seen that in a long time. “Hi Brian,” I said, when I join him. “Lindsay, this is my buddy Maria, she works for the FBI. We have dealt with each other in the past. And she just told me the most amazing news. Maria?” Secretly I was wondering what kind business Brian had with the FBI. But of course his job as a marine officer might have had something to do with it. Maria offered me her hand, but I didn’t take it, because I wanted to know what kind of news she has. “Well, I can inform you that Michael Sheldon King is dead. For real this time.” She gave me a minute to process the news. “What kind of sick joke is this?” I hiss through my teeth. “Lindsay, it’s not a joke. He really is dead.” Brian interfered. “When? How?” Were the only words I could utter. Brian held up his hand and a man with a baseball cap walked over to out booth. “Logan, will you tell Lindsay what you did?” Brian said. “I killed him, I killed him for us. Cheryl was indeed still having contact with him, and three days ago I followed her, she was meeting him. When he saw me, he pulled his gun, and so did I. I shot him.” I could see some hint of remorse in his eyes. “I shot him.” He repeated again. Suddenly I connected the dots, FBI and Logan. Shit Maria is here to arrest him. I grabbed Logan’s hands and cherished them between mine, “Thank you.” I said. It was finally over. Michael is dead. I can look to the future now. We shared a couple of minutes in silence, when I turned to Maria, “Are you here to arrest him.” “Well, I was. Until my supervisor called. They have the footage of CCTV of a nearby gas station that indicated that Mr. Daniels shot out of self-defense, it’s clear to see. Mr. Daniels is free to go where ever he wants. But Cheryl was helping a fugitive and she will be arrested when we find her. She was last seen when she crossed the Mexican border, the night Mr. Daniels shot Mr. King. But I’ll do my best to keep it out of the media.” I was so happy. “Can I see his body?” I said out of the blue. “Are you sure that’s a good idea?” Brian answered shocked. “Yes, there were times that he was good for me. I loved him, back then. I want to remember him the way he was then, and not now. Please? I need closure. I need it, if I want to go and live a happy life.” Maria nodded and made the call. I turn to Logan, who was staring straight forward. “That’s why you waited so long to contact me.” I couldn’t resist leaning my head on his shoulder. “I shot him.” He said again. “Sshhtt, its okay Logan. Maria said you are free to go where ever you want. It was self defense. They have video images of that. You’re clear.” Slowly a smile rose on his face, although it didn’t reach his eyes. I leaned forward and kissed his neck, “Thank you. I love you Logan, I always have. Be my future, my happy ending?” Logan cocked his head and looked at me. No words where needed, but I know the answer was yes. I was standing in front of a big building, I was holding hands with Logan and together we walked towards the entrance. Maria and Brian where right behind us. Once inside the coroner let us inside a small room. In the middle of the room was a table with a white cloth. Logan let go of my hand when I wanted to step in to the room. “I can’t. Because of me he is lying there. Despite of the things that asshole did to you, I feel horrible. You go.” Logan kissed me and then stepped back and waited in the hall. The coroner lifted the cloth and there he was, the man that made my life miserable the last twelve years. It was over. It was finally over. Tears of joy and pain streamed down my cheeks. Somehow I was hoping we could end this differently, but now I know, Michael was never going to leave me alone. I have to make peace with the fact, that this was the only option. I kissed Michael on his forehead, “Goodbye Michael. With all the shenanigans you pulled, you will always have a special place in my heart.” I turned around and walked slowly back to Logan. I looked at Michael one more time before I closed the door. I grabbed Logan’s hand and inside I jumped up and down, the rest of my life is about to start…. Thank you all so much for reading! Much Love, M.K. Stone
