Part Two - Optimism Yet, there are glimmers of hope worth - TopicsExpress

Part Two - Optimism Yet, there are glimmers of hope worth desperately clinging to. In the next election 53% of voters could be women and a far greater percentage of minority voters will come into their oown. The era of “50-year-old white guys” is slowly fading away (though there is great evidence of their tenacity) and champions of the people and a kinder America continue to thrive in certain places. Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Sherrod Brown and a few others are trying to truly lead. That leaves those of us who might be slightly more enlightened, those of us who value humanism in a strange and ironic position. In the elections to come, despite the massive influx of money that Citizens United creates, we will serve a far more important role than ever before. With a greater percentage of women and minorities voting against the Republican right establishment, we have the power to shift the vote, to provide that extra little bit of momentum we need to elect better candidates and to create meaningful change. From this point forth it becomes critical to speak truth, to speak it persuasively and often to everyone and anyone who will listen… and particularly to those who will be in a position to create our future… our neighbors, friends, colleagues. We must all become political activists, vocal educators in our communities and supportive of progressive ideals. If we lose this battle we have only ourselves to blame. It’s another irony that at this time when we feel most helpless, we may actually have more power collectively than ever before. Please continue to do what you do to help share the word.
