Part Two: ((( Calvinism vs. Arminianism ))) - T of TULIP c. The Biblical Position Compared with the Five Points of Calvinism. * Note: It is acknowledged that not all Calvinists agree upon all the points of Calvinism. Our discussion is based upon Calvinism in its most common form. TOTAL DEPRAVITY 1) Calvinism stands for the Total Depravity of man and therefore for the total inability of depraved man to make any righteous choice of their own independent free will. Classic Calvinism teaches that man is spiritually dead and therefore a spiritual corpse as incapable as a physical corpse would be of repenting and believing on Jesus. a) The Biblical Position agrees that, if left to himself, sinful man would universally reject God. However, the Biblical Position is that man is not left to himself! God gives His enabling Grace to all men (Titus 2:11) b) The corpse analogy of Calvinism is flawed because a corpse is incapable of sin as well as righteousness. Man clearly is not incapable of sin. Spiritual death does not refer to some type of unconscious state that is incapable of thought or choice. Spiritual death means separation from God. Notes by John T. Yates, Faith Bible Institute
