Participate State Level Consultation on Right to Food Act on 17th July 2014. The union government had enacted National Food Security Act (NFSA) 2013 from July 05, 2013 and it was to be implemented in the states within a year by July 05, 2014. The NFSA 2013 in India seeks to provide for food and nutritional security in human life cycle approach by ensuring access to adequate quantity of quality food at affordable price to people to live a life with dignity. It also extends the benefits of provision of grains at subsidized rate for rural and urban population based on socio- economic census. With this legislative framework the U.P. state government is required to evolve a set of guidelines criteria and define the mechanism for identification of priority house-holds within state by July 05, 2014. According to different government agencies like Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), National Sample Survey Organization (NSSO) and National Family Health Survey (NFHS) food and nutrition security is very important for physical and mental growth for every individual. In U.P. data suggests that around 50% of mothers and children are living in food and nutritional insecure situation and suffering from acute iron and protein energy malnutrition. In the mean time department of Food and Civil Supply, Govt. of U.P invites suggestions from public for effective implementation of this Act within a month. In this context Aim ( a Lucknow based Civil Society Organization ) with support of FIAN-U.P. and ICCO Corporation organized a consultation on the said topic.
