Partnership & Coordination Officer I. Position Information Location : Dakar Application Deadline :07/01/2015 Type of Contract :SC Post Level :SB4 II. Organizational Context The UN Women (UNW), grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women’s rights at the centre of all its efforts, the UN Women will lead and coordinate United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It will provide strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States’ priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors. UNW Senegal works with multiple partners to achieve various goals in women leadership, economic empowerment, ending VAW, peace & security, gender equitable planning & budgeting, as well as making intergovernmental processes equitable and inclusive. The scope of work requires experience and in-depth understanding of gender equality and partnership issues in Senegal, as well as coordination expertise, and capacity to develop mutually reinforcing partnerships with relevant Government counterparts, UN Organizations, CSOs, and with bilateral and non-traditional donors, in order to promote inter-agency partnerships, support for UN reform, and mobilization of visibility and resources to advance gender equality and women empowerment. Under the guidance and supervision of the Senegal Programme Coordinator, the coordination and partnership officer will: III. Functions / Key Results Expected Summary of key functions : To elaborate and propose a Partnership Strategy for the Senegal Office, in order to ensure follow up and coordination of commitments made with partners, and articulate effective implementation mechanisms. To facilitate the understanding by UNW Senegal partners of the institutional expectations from working with UNW, as well as mutually beneficial communications mechanisms, including tools for monitoring these; Help build a coalition of national partners to be engaged in relevant GE intergovernmental processes at regional and global levels (CSW, Beijing +20, Post-2015 Development Agenda, etc.) To update the current UNW data base of contacts/partners that can be leveraged to deliver on key objectives of the AWP when required. IV. Duties and Responsibilities Establish and maintain an open communication of the Senegal office with partners to implement commitments. Communicate UN Women Senegal vision and strategic goals and develop tools to follow up on the good understanding of the vision and missions of the organization Network with national partners, the government, CSO, to engage them to intergovernmental processes Facilitate the overall reportage of the activities as assigned and all events associated with them and prepare Briefing notes and Speeches for UNW Country Rep. Recruitment Qualifications Education : Master’s Degree or equivalent in Law, Social Sciences, International Relations, Political Science or Related fields Experience : Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience at the national or international level in international development issues; Experience in partnership and development with a background in the analysis of socio-economic issues and related policy matters; Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages, experience in handling of web based management systems.
