Partson Chimbodza issues statement on Zimdance violence: On behalf of Chipaz Promotions, I would like to apologise to Zimbabweans, colleagues and various stakeholders for the violence which occurred at the recent Zimbabwe Dancehall Gig – Sting 2014 held at City Sports Centre. To those that might have been injured during the incident, we say sorry and wish them a speedy recovery. Like we indicated from the onset, we had organised this event to curb violence in this genre following the hurling of beer cans on stage when Jamaican chanter Kalado performed in the capital. Similar incidents might have occurred prior to the Kalado show but we felt we needed to address this issue. Prior to the event, we sought clearance and support from the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Republic Police and the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority among other stakeholders and we ran a campaign titled *No To Violence, No To Can Throwing.* This campaign was and still targeted to our Zim dancehall lovers as we felt this phenomenon had tarnished the image of our country in as far as hosting international artistes was concerned. We then came up with a concept named STING, which means Several Talented Individuals Needs Guidance. Of course STING started in Jamaica but ours was meant to tackle violence by all people involved be it an artists, fans, journalists and promoters etcetera c we all need guidance. We then engaged top dancehall artistes to help us in this campaign. Like we said, their “lyrical confrontation” might have been understood by some fans who took it for a war. In fact, these artistes (particularly Soul Jah Love and Seh) Calaz are good friends and not enemies as perceived by many. We wanted and still wish to use our artistes to show the public that they are only rivals on stage. A lot has been said after the event but we feel we need to move forward and avoid similar incidents. For the good of the industry, we feel it is noble that we all avoid violence at such events. Like any other level-headed promoter, we do accept criticism and we will take all suggestions into consideration. Yours in music Partson Chimbodza (Chipaz Promotions).
