Party leaders wrongly criticizing McDaniel The waters - TopicsExpress

Party leaders wrongly criticizing McDaniel The waters surrounding the GOP Senate primary are so murky that the casual voter may have difficulty sorting truth from fiction. Here’s a fact: The by-laws of the Mississippi Republican Party prohibit anyone representing the party to “endorse or oppose any Republican candidate for public office” prior to the primary. Nevertheless, party power-broker Haley Barbour stated that challenger Chris McDaniel would “have his head handed to him.” Party leaders Chairman Joe Nosef, Gov. Phil Bryant, Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves, et. al. are in lock step praising Cochran while McDaniel is criticized. Even state employee Sid Salter is writing feel-good pieces on Cochran for the press. Such statements dance very close to the endorse/oppose territory. Meanwhile, political pundits point to the party’s missed opportunity in opposing Obamacare, citing the lack of an alternative plan or coherent message. Perhaps the party is too busy killing its young. Here’s another fact: Cochran voted twice to fund Obamacare while McDaniel filed a federal lawsuit to have it repealed. Voters should ignore the mud and focus on one essential issue. We have a choice between voting for the same representation that we’ve had in the Senate for 40-plus years or voting for the kind of change that Chris McDaniel represents. Rita B.
