Party primaries: PDP begins sale of forms today The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will today commence the sale of forms for all its primaries for the 2015 general elections. In a statement signed by the National Organising Secretary of the party, Abubakar Mustapha, the party said the decision was in compliance with Section 87 of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended) and the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) timetable for party congresses and national convention leading to next year’s general elections. According to the statement, the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) at its 66th meeting of Thursday, September 18, 2014 approved the timetable for the party congresses and the national convention. The statement specifies that November 20, 2014 would be the last date for resignation/retirement of public officers, political appointees, civil servants and party officials who were aspiring for elective positions in 2015. According to the party’s timetable, the purchase and return of forms for the ad-hoc delegates would be between October 27 and 28 while ward congresses would hold on November 1, 2014. Appeals for the congresses would be entertained on November 3, 2014. For the local government area congresses for national delegates, the purchase and return of forms have been scheduled for November 3 to 5, whereas the local government congress proper will be on November 8 and appeals to be entertained on November 10. Also, closing date for the return of House of Assembly primaries forms would be on November 3 while screening of candidates and screening appeals will be on November 6 and 10 respectively. In the case of the National Assembly primaries, closing date for returning of forms is scheduled for November 5, while screening will be on November 10 and screening appeals to be on November 12. According to the timetable, the House of Representatives primaries was scheduled for November 19, while that of the Senate would be on November 22 but the appeals would be on 21 and 24 respectively. For the gubernatorial primaries, the closing date for returning the forms is November 8 and screening appeals holds November 17, while state congresses/primaries and appeals will hold on November 29 and December 1 respectively. Accordingly, closing date for the return of forms for presidential primary election is November 15, while screening, screening appeals and the national convention will be on November 24, 26 and December 6 to 7 respectively.
