Pasintabi lang po muna sa mga kaibigan ko na mga La Sallista. But this has got to be the most satisfying Ateneo win over La Salle in my memory for so many reasons. 1. The defending champions are definitely more talented this year than last year yet Ateneo played a near perfect game and La Salle just played selfishly. There is such a thing as way too much talent on a team. 2. The Eagles are very young and unproven and were seeded by most experts to not even make it to this years final 4. 3. We finally got to see the Bo Perasol system fully realized and it makes for an exciting team! Relentless and aggressive on defense and utterly without conscience on offense. Fun, fun, fun! 4. Marvelous games by La Salle rejects Fonso Gotladera and Nico Elorde. Remember, they were on the La Salle seniors team but were released when more talented teammates were recruited. Gwyne played okay too. So the ex-Lasallians played well today with the exception of Isaac Lim who didnt see action at all. 5. Kiefer, Von and Chris definitely put the team on their shoulders. Splendid games by all three despite the shaky start by Kiefer and Chris. 6. Our frontline is nowhere near as bad as scouts projected - Gotladera played out of his mind, Babilonia has been solid and Arvin just knows how to make plays. Apacible will show a lot more as the season progresses and will be very important versus the Abduls and Mamies of the world. Plus we still have Javelosa and Porter - proven winners on the bench. Only Arvin will grab your attention on offense but every single one of our frontline players are hard nosed blue collar workers. 7. The Chris Newsome as point forward experiment is working a lot better than I expected. The team does not miss a beat when there is no true point guard on the floor. 9. Tratter, Sargent, Mustre et al < Tolentino, Apacible, Ravena et al at this point in the season. 10. Ateneo 2-0. La Salle 0-2. Just wow. What a satisfying win.
