Past was Tense, Present is Continuous, Future is - TopicsExpress

Past was Tense, Present is Continuous, Future is Unpredictable. There is a Shloka (verse) in the Rig Veda which says “knowledge is structured in consciousness and defines the quality of our experiences”. Knowledge is different in varied states of mind or consciousness. The quality of experiences should not be distorted by the wisdom of future insecurity. Alan Watts wrote “If happiness always depends on something good expected in the future, then we are chasing a will-o-the-wisp, ever elusive, until our future vanishes in the abyss of death”. The answer is the oft-cliched don’t anticipate the future “live in the present” This is easier said than done where human nature unravels with all its failings, frustrations and frailties and the net result is we miss out on all the little pleasures of the moment in our anxiety and hopes of a better future. We spend too much time planning the uncertain future not acknowledging what we don’t and can’t do while not fulfilling the present. How we spend our today is how we will spend the rest of our lives, so we must develop knowingness (mindfulness), which is different from knowing on the surface. Knowingness is the silent depth of the mind, the ability to go through life with crystalline awareness - fully inhabiting our present experiences.
