Pastor Mikes Daily Devotion Sunday June 22, 2014 Acts 14:19–20, Then Jews from Antioch and Iconium came there; and having persuaded the multitudes, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing him to be dead. However, when the disciples gathered around him, he rose up and went into the city. And the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe. Think about what Paul did. He was abused to such a degree that the people there assumed he was dead. In order to not defile their city they drug him out of town. I suppose the reason that the disciples gathered around Paul was because of how bad of shape he was in. Their purpose that for gathering around Paul was for prayer. Now the result of all of this was that Paul rose up. The thing that really amazes me is that he went back into the city. If I ever meet Paul in heaven Im going to ask him, Why did you go back,” now no one knows why but I do wish I had the same passion to push past my fears and press back against the opposition. Weve all given into opposition and allowed it to hinder our ministry, but look at the opposition that we face today in this country. What is the worst thing that happens? They may mock you, laugh at you, or they might confront you and challenge you but they wont kill you. When was the last time someone was martyred for their faith in this country? Ill ask you to do something even harder; instead of risking being killed for your faith, how about if you would just die to yourself for the purpose of someone elses faith. If you are opposed get up, and go back, then press on. Joshua 1:9, Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
