Patients often ask me how long the #gastricsleeve surgery is. Having done over 6,600 of these procedures over the past 8 years, heres my answer (taken directly from my newly updated #gastricsleevebook. At our center, the average time to complete a gastric sleeve surgery is approximately 25-35 minutes. This average time was not like this at the beginning when I began performing this procedure and my average time to complete a sleeve was an hour to an hour and 20 minutes. I have been blessed to work with the same surgical team, including anesthesiologists, doctors, OR nurses, assistants, etc. on every single case, every single day for many years now. This means that everyone knows their part - what to do, when to do it - avoiding any lost time in preparing, setting up, explaining steps to follow, etc. I like to see it as a musical orchestra that plays the same melody every day, year after year. Everyone know it by heart! As we continued to focus on the gastric sleeve and perfected our technique, we were able to lower the operating time with great benefit for our patients.
