The Castle Law Doctrine is the first line of defense to protecting your life, liberty, property and family. What exactly is a “Castle Law Doctrine?” Do you know what this means for you and your property? “A castle doctrine (also known as a castle law or a defense of habitation law) is a legal doctrine that designates a persons abode (or, in some states, any legally-occupied place [e.g., a vehicle or workplace]) as a place in which that person has certain protections and immunities permitting him or her, in certain circumstances, to use force (up to and including deadly force) to defend himself against an intruder, free from legal responsibility/prosecution for the consequences of the force used. Typically deadly force is considered justified, and a defense of justifiable homicide applicable, in cases when the actor reasonably fears imminent peril of death or serious bodily harm to him or herself or another The Castle Law generally applies to ones immediate property: Home, vehicle, outbuildings, sheds, fenced property, ect. However, in a technical overview, your “Castle Mow,” or the property that you keep mowed on a property, where you have these things located, is considered to be protected in most Castle Law Doctrines. If you have someone unknown on your immediate property (“Castle Mow”) and you fear immediate threat, do not know the whereabouts of the person(s), have received threats verbally, physically or otherwise and have reasonable suspicion that the person(s) are going to harm you, your family, property, life or liberty, you are exempt from law to use what force is necessary to neutralize the threat. Look into your state’s specific Castle Law Doctrine to better understand individual protection. The first line of defense against corruption is knowing how to play the “legal game.” Never assume, always be informed. Knowing what you can do to protect yourself is the most important “first response” you can get to protect your family. Knowledge is power, knowledge is preparedness.
