Patriot Pin Up, Inc Cincinnati Chapter at The Friendly Market for the Butcher Betties cruise-in One of the things that always makes me the happiest at car functions is watching the little ones get exposed to a bit of American history and culture. It is a place to disconnect from technology and the everyday stresses within our modern society. No iPads, video games, or isolation. It is a place where everyone can come together with their common interests and love for all things that go. Staying up late, catching fireflies, blowing bubbles, and riding bikes. It is nice to just slow down and disconnect while reconnecting the old fashioned way: talking to one another. My love for car culture and American ingenuity stems from an idea of a simpler time filled with comraddery, hard working people, kind gestures, and smiling at strangers. Acknowledging one anothers existence and having a sense of trust within each other as human beings. It restores my faith in humanity. I spend every morning walking to work starving for eye contact and a good morning from anyone...instead I am overwhelmed with faces glued to their devices in the palms of their hands and strange glares at my smiling face. Perhaps it would do us all some good to disconnect, catch a firefly or two, and shake hands with a stranger. My favorite part of the evening was when the announcer ended the night by saying: always remember to take a kid to a car show. To this day...I still feel like one whenever I am there. xo Ginger Watson
