Patriotism Defined Some good friends of mine from Lucedale, Mississippi gave me a daily devotional a few years back and this year I decided to start from day one. What shocked me on day three was ‘Patriotism Defined’. The devotional states the term patriotism has changed over the centuries. In 1828 when we were still a young country the term patriotism was defined as love for one’s country; the passion which aims to serve one’s country, either in defending it from invasion, or protecting its rights and maintaining its laws and institutions in vigor and purity. Patriotism is the characteristic of a good citizen, the noblest of passion that animates a man in the character of a citizen. Fast forward to 2004 and the definition is simply – love for or devotion to one’s country. As you can see the term has been dumbed down over the years. However, I believe there to be a resurgence in the true meaning of patriotism. We’ve seen it in play out in election after election in Mississippi and across the country starting in 2010 and progressing each and every year. Patriotism is not just feeling but it is an action. Serving in uniform to defend America is the truest form of patriotism but standing up for the constitution and being true to our founding fathers is just as important to most Americans. I hope you will join me in 2015 to defend America against all enemies both domestic and foreign and fight to make America the most exceptional country in the history of mankind. It starts with acknowledging that we owe all that we have to our Lord God and from there holding all in elected office to freeing us from debt, defending our nation against all enemies, supporting our men and women in the military and standing up for traditional family values. I love America and all those who have served to defend her. It’s time we take a stand. I support our military, our police and our citizens who want to preserve and protect the greatest nation on earth – the United States of America!
