Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week, and defensive end Chandler Jones earned AFC Defensive Player of the Month honors, the team announced this morning. Brady was 34-of-50 for 344 yards, with three touchdowns and no interceptions, in Sunday nights 34-31 overtime win over the Broncos. The game was played in icy-cold conditions and heavy winds, and coach Bill Belichick later said Bradys mental toughness, big hands and tight spiral are the main reasons he excels in those types of elements. As for Jones, he has been one of the Patriots most consistent players this season, playing 98.2 percent of the defensive snaps and totaling a team-high 10.5 sacks. Coaches have credited him with 63 tackles and 19 quarterback hits this season. Jones has seen his responsibilities expand this year. Hes been a pure 4-3 edge rusher and a 3-4 outside linebacker who sometimes drops into coverage, while also going inside to rush over guards in subpackages. Jones is the first Patriots defensive player to earn player of the month honors since defensive back Eugene Wilson in 2004. Source: ESPNBoston
