Pats Weekly Diary - May 12, 2014 This week we played three gigs in two days… three gigs in two places!!! What? That’s’ right. On Friday night we played a wedding at the New Orleans Board of Trade. It’s not an easy place to get in and out of with equipment to begin with. You have to park on the street, blocking traffic, unload onto the sidewalk. There is a partially covered entrance, back into a small open area, up a small flight of stairs (fortunately there is a ramp) and into the building. And as you might recall it rained quite a bit on Friday night. So now we’re moving equipment in the rain. David was the only one with fore sight to bring an umbrella but it proved a little difficult… him and me sharing the umbrella and moving equipment in the rain. And now we’re fighting with pedestrians who are taking cover under the entrance way… “Out of the way, can’t you see we’re trying to move our equipment?” The ramp is slippery… almost fell on my ass. But once we got in and the guests arrived the reception went off smoothly with dancing from the first to last song. Getting out was as difficult as getting in as it was still raining. Saturday we played a wedding at Rock n Bowl. We’ve played weddings there a couple of times in the past. We played from 6 to 9. This was a huge fantastic reception in a very unique setting for a wedding. We then had an hour to kill (I went to my truck and slept… got no trouble falling to sleep) before playing… Rock n Bowl. Two different gigs at the same place. Over the years that’s happened maybe twice!!! And it turned out to be just a great packed night at Rock n Bowl. We played just one long almost three hour set. Needless to say we were exhausted at the end of the night. And that’s our week. We trust you had a nice Mother’s Day. We’re off now until Wednesday at which time we return to the Kamp in the great city of Harahan.
