Paula Priesse - August 13th From a 1994 Philadelphia Inquirer article about rodeos: “A dummy with a George (H.W.) Bush mask stood beside the clown, propped up by a broomstick. The crowd cheered. Then the bull saw the George Bush dummy. He tore into it, sending the rubber mask flying halfway across the sand as he turned toward the fence … “ No big deal was made. No big deal should have been made. Fast forward to today’s headline from CBS News: “Missouri fair bans clown for wearing Obama mask” Actually a lifetime ban, and now officials are considering taking action against the Missouri Rodeo Cowboy Association. But fellow rodeo cowboy David Berry said: “Rodeo clowns have long performed such acts, often imitating sitting presidents.” But David not THIS president, even though previous presidents had been spoofed far more often and in much worse ways. So to all those who got a rodeo clown banned for wearing a mask: It’s not that O’s skin is too dark, it’s that your skin is too thin! The last time we checked America is not a totalitarian state. At least not yet. P
