Penang Umno reps: Channel RM40k allocation to district offices ---- Penang Barisan Nasional (BN) state assemblypersons want the RM40,000 annual allocation offered them by the state government to be channeled to the district offices. Penang state legislative assembly opposition chief Jahara Hamid said it was to dispel Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s alleged notions that BN assemblypersons practised a culture of wasteful spending and misusing funds for personal interest. “Actually the RM40,000 annual offer is not aimed at reconciliation but a dirty tactic for political mileage to make the people view BN assemblypersons poorly. “So to prove that it is transparent and flawless, the state government should channel the allocation which the chief minister announced, to the respective district offices. “The district offices can distribute the allocation based on the people’s applications and implement them according to the guidelines,” she told a media conference in Butterworth today. The Teluk Air Tawar assemblyperson was commenting on the statement by Lim on the state government’s approval to allocate RM40,000 annually to each state BN assemblyperson for minor developments from 2014 onwards. Lim was also reported to have said he wanted the BN assemblypersons to participate in state cabinet meetings, being concerned that they might not adhere to the standard operating procedure (SOP).
