PennDOT to Hold Public Plans Display for Business Route 422/Penn Street Bridge Rehabilitation Project Allentown – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will hold a public plans display on Wednesday, July 10 to update the public about the proposed Business Route 422/Penn Street Bridge rehabilitation project in the City of Reading and West Reading Borough, Berks County. The plans will be displayed from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Reading Area Community College, Schmidt Training & Technology Center, 15 North Front Street, Reading. Residents, business owners and motorists are encouraged to attend. The project is being designed to rehabilitate the state-owned, 100-year old, structurally deficient, Business Route 422/Penn Street Bridge over the Schuylkill River, Norfolk Southern Rail Road, Schuylkill River Trail, and Front Street. The average daily traffic volume on Penn Street at the Bridge is 16,104 vehicles. At the meeting, PennDOT and design consultant engineers will present plans, traffic impacts, and explain the design process of the proposed improvements to the Bridge. This project is another example of PennDOT’s commitment to providing a safer and smoother transportation system to the motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians of Berks County.
