#PennStateExtension Warm weather mid-week, then showers and cooler temperatures for the weekend. Abnormally dry conditions have been present in much of central Pennsylvania, and over the first ten days of September that trend has persisted. The next opportunity for widespread rain will come later this week. Unseasonably warm and humid conditions in the early part of the week will continue in to Wednesday across the state ahead of an approaching front. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop throughout the day, confined to mainly western and central Pennsylvania, and should begin to diminish by sunset Wednesday evening. The entire state will have the opportunity to see measurable rain on Thursday as the front traverses the region. Most areas should see at least a tenth of an inch of precipitation, with those areas that experience heavier downpours in thunderstorms potentially seeing up to an inch or more. Temperatures behind the front on Friday and in to the weekend will be much cooler than normal, with nighttime lows in portions of northern Pennsylvania and some deeper valleys approaching the freezing mark on Friday/Saturday night. Temperatures will begin to rebound to near normal levels early next week and the state should remain dry through the middle of the week. Kyle Imhoff, Assistant Pennsylvania State Climatologist
