Pens: "Cate Blanchett starts to “unravel” when she can’t find a pen. The actress plays the protagonist in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine, about a well-to-do woman who loses her fortune unexpectedly one day. While Cate can see why Jasmine is highly strung, she hopes she’s not quite so quick to lose it in real life. “I don’t like being late,” she answered Total Film magazine, when asked what makes her “unravel”. “God, I hope I’m not prone to being a Jasmine! But I think your job as an actor is to not try and reflect your own experience or your own judgments of the world. “It’s to be compassionate and to try and understand how people can get what they get. “Look, in answer to your question, it’s usually the little things that break you. Everything’s going fine until you can’t find a f**king pen! But I’m pretty good at multitasking. It’s when there’s nothing. It takes me a while to calm down and do nothing but I do understand the notion of the beach holiday now after doing profoundly nothing.” Cate, 44, has starred in some huge films, such as The Aviator and Bob Dylan biopic I’m Not There. She can remember feeling nervous after initially leaving drama school. “I’d seen a lot of actors, brilliant actors, who didn’t work very often and obviously particularly when you’re starting out, there’s more rejection than there is acceptance,” she admitted. “I said, ‘I’ll give myself five years, because I don’t think that I’m of strong enough mettle to deal with rejection,’ so I’ve been incredibly, incredibly lucky.”"
