People and businesses in England need to know from George Osborne what is his Plan B in the event of Scots voting for independence and him still refusing to countenance a currency union with Scotland. Without all of Scotlands vast wealth underpinning sterling its value would collapse. Sterlings credit rating on international markets would tumble, imports into the remaining UK (rUK) would become more expensive, foreign holidays would cost more, and it would take forever for the Chancellor to see his budget deficit cleared. For all these reasons it would make no sense at all for rUK to refuse to enter a currency union - in fact it would be like cutting his nose to spite his face.
