People asked Alh Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo about (Talban Gombe) 00N about the problem of water supply is still endemic, what is your administration doing in this regard? He Said! Fortunately or unfortunately for us, there are some places where you cannot get borehole water, or surface water done, and 500 metres to some places in Gombe, you cannot get, so the only solution is to get dam or treated water. We have a dam in Gombe, but the dam is about 45-50 kilometres away, so we are drawing the water little by little. The first step we are taking is that when the water comes to Gombe, we have to distribute the water around; that alone costs us about N4.2 billion. The next is to extend it to certain areas - the reticulation is about 90-95 per cent complete as at today. We run the water four times, and monthly or quarterly costs of maintenance is about N242 million. We used to pump the water only once, but because of the influx of people into Gombe from neighbouring states. We pump the water four times now on a daily basis, so these are all the kinds of pressures that are on us, which also reduce our efforts to ensure that other areas that do not have water have it. I could easily have done some boreholes in some other places, but you cannot even get borehole water here, so these are some of the challenges.
