People expect rescues and rescuers to be perfect. I know this... They critique them and hold them to a higher standard...at times on a pedestal of expectation. I have talked to and seen rescuers get hate mail and personal attacks on their morale. In the last 2 days I have talked to 3 rescuers that were bashed by someone. My personal opinion is the people that are most likely to bash are those that have nothing to do with rescue. They are spectators, on the sidelines, either playing monday morning quarterback... Or they are just hateful in general. Right here, right now...I will clear up the mystery. Rescuers are just people. They have big hearts and daring souls, but in the end they hurt just the same as anyone. They get accused of not doing enough, doing it the wrong way, or not rescuing what people want them to rescue. Most rescues know their limits, and if they cant fully commit to a dog, they dont pull it. Most people are supportive and understand their dilemma... But some are just hateful. To those people driving the car from the back seat, I say -Get involved... Do more... And dont tear down and wound the people that have the balls to brave the crazy, taxing, exhausting world that is animal rescue.
