People keep accusing us of being a cynic A pessimist who just sees darkness And if there is light at the end of the tunnel, we’ll say that possibly it is another train approaching. People accuse us of whining all day and not providing any solution. Let me introduce myself to you fellas. I used to drink and drive like crazy. Realized one day, that it is not the coolest thing to do because in the worst case you die, in the best case someone else dies or gets injured. I stopped doing that. I used to jump red signals, defy speed thresholds. And then became conscious of the fact that these are not cool things to do either…in fact I started finding solace in following rules. I hated politics too. It was for the oldies and for those who had no life. I paid no heed to the social cacophonies around. But I knew one thing that disrespecting the status quo was a very cool thing hence I followed the 2 bit hammer and sickle Dharnawaalahs wherever they went. I revolted against the system for no reasons. I grew up. No, I didn’t sit under the great tree of enlightenment and became Buddha from Siddhartha. Growing up was a gradual process and it started happening, “eventually”. It still is underway and probably will continue till I breathe my last, because the day you stop growing, you stop living. I started voting. I started respecting rules. I started helping accident victims. I stopped following the mob. I started confronting eve teasers. I started shaming rule breakers. I started helping police and other systems. I started questioning the anomalies around. I stopped littering, bribing and acting cool. I started believing in the golden fact that Yes, this country can change. I created this page and started voicing my opinions. Like minded people joined me and We took it upon ourselves to educate other cool fellas like us and the page was a success. A critic is not a pessimist. He is a heedful optimist. Each of one you who does his duties honestly and makes sure that he gets all his rights is doing his bit. We can’t be police. We can’t be judges. All of us can’t get into politics and change the fate of the nation. But we can do our job by believing in the system and doing our best to strengthen in. When a citizen starts believing in the nation, when a citizen starts lauding the good things and criticizing the aberrations, the entire nation takes a giant leap forward. That’s collective awakening. And providing information is a service. That is not whining uselessly :-) - Atul Kumar Mishra
