People keep asking me why I dont wear Google Glass anymore. The take below is fine, but misses the really big flaw with Google Glass. What is that? Google Glass messes with the social contract we have with each other. When you are wearing them you cant tell what you are doing. It makes other people uncomfortable. Making the screen smaller will still mean your eyes will light up, you will touch or talk to your glasses, and you will be distracted when you should be paying attention to me. Google Glass isnt appropriate for every situation and never will be. Here, look at it another way. Its pretty much always OK to have your smartphone in your hand. But Google Glass even makes ME nervous and I wore one for an entire year. Why the difference in how we treat these two technologies? Because on the smartphone I can see that you are looking at Facebook and can even negotiate whether thats important to do now or not. On Glass? People have no clue whats on your screen. That causes people to be nervous and they dont know how to explain it to you, so they blame the camera. The truth is Google Glass isnt appropriate for every situation. The thing is the Google Glass team met with me a few months ago. They know all this and are fixing the problems. When they do Ill start wearing Glass again, because it sure did have utility in places.
