People love to confuse bodybuilding and weightlifting thanks to the constant, unintelligible drivel regarding strength and conditioning perpetuated by the mainstream media. The two are completely different pursuits. Bodybuilding is about gaining serious muscle mass while chasing an aesthetic ideal to flex on a stage in a speedo in an attempt to win completely subjective testosterone soaked beauty pageants. Weightlifters dedicate their training to perfecting movement patterns, earning mobility, and maximizing strength which enables them to lift as much weight as possible safely and efficiently. Both take dedication and years of hard work utilizing drastically divergent training protocols. The intrinsic difference is simple; however, bodybuilding is the pursuit of physical form whereas weightlifting is the pursuit of function.
