People may think that just because I am a priest that my life is - TopicsExpress

People may think that just because I am a priest that my life is fine and dandy. That, it is not. My life is messy just like everyone else on earth. If we think our life is not messy then we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us because all of us have sin in our lives and all of us have to work on virtue and growth in holiness each day. We need to learn how to love more, be patient more, serve others better, and be more thankful for who others are in our lives and not base our feelings on what they do or do not do to us or for us. Some lives are indeed messier than others but we are all in the same mess. Yesterday, Christmas Eve was one of the worst ones I have ever gone through. It was dark, hard, and lonely. I imagine I had only a smidgen of what many others in this world go through every day and how many others have had much worse Christmases in the midst of the darkness. I am not sorry I had experienced such a difficult Christmas as it gives me a lot of perspective of what others go through and helps me to understand even more deeply why Christ came in the first place. I do not share this for you to feel sorry for me. Please do not do that. Again, I am thankful for this as it will help me to grow. It is very hard to be at the foot of the Cross with my dad and mom in the midst of my fathers illness but truthfully there is no other place I would rather be right now. I am just beginning to learn the meaning of Christmas in a deeper way... to be a light shining in the darkness and oh, how I need to shine much brighter. May you always, no matter what situation you may find yourself in or difficult relationships you may have with others, remember what Christmas is all about. It is not so much about what we receive from others but what we have received from God already and what we need to share with everyone, no matter how difficult they may be... nor how difficult we may be... and this is LOVE. In this is charity: not as though we had loved God, but because he hath first loved us, and sent his Son to be a propitiation for our sins. My dearest, if God hath so loved us; we also ought to love one another. (1 John 4:10-11)
