People often ask me if I find it sad volunteering at an animal shelter. I dont. The dogs and cats who make it to Baypath Humane Society of Hopkinton, Inc. are the truly lucky ones. The cats have a big screened area with plenty of toys and the dogs can run around in the fenced play area, explore wooded trails and even try their hand at agility equipment. And all are loved deeply by the staff and volunteers. Of course living in a shelter is stressful for any animal, no matter how nice it is. To help ensure the health and well being of the dogs and cats, Baypath provides a great deal of enrichment and personal attention. Whether its bringing in a specialist to address a medical concern, providing training to a dog, giving a skittish cat her own little space, or taking a dog whos stressed out for a field trip, the team there is passionate about helping all the animals in their care. And when you get to see an animal youve grown to love go to their forever home, it is amazing.
