People often have a hard time understanding why I get so pissed off at the proliferation of stupid laws and regulations in this country. This is why. Every law, no matter how seemingly minor or benign, is an excuse for a group of armed men to throw another human being to the ground and possibly kill him (or her). There are probably a hundred ways in which this death could have been avoided, but the fact is that Eric Garner died because the police were cracking down on untaxed cigarettes. The cops forced him to the ground, put him in a chokehold that theyve been forbidden to use, and he died. All because the Great and Powerful State didnt want to lose a few cents per pack on some cigarettes. And what are the repercussions for this insanely disproportional use of force?
