People often say that our nation went down hill when prayer was taken out of schools. I personally dont think that is the case. I agree that people who send their children to public school should not have to worry about their children being forced to pray to or acknowledge a God they dont believe in. That is their choice. I would not want my children being forced to pray to a different God. Absence of prayer in schools? Perhaps that is not the issue. The greater problem occurs when prayer is taken out of the home. How many people pray with or for their children before they go to school? How many of us pray for their teachers? Their friends? How can we get offended when school does not involve God, but our own homes are only places of prayer before we eat a meal, before we go to bed, or when something is wrong? I wonder what would happen if people of God stopped fighting about what is happening in our nation and got on our knees in earnest prayer for it TOGETHER? The kind of help we need cannot come from human effort alone. What good is it if laws are changed but our hearts for one another are not? We are a divided nation and a house divided cannot stand. But who is willing? Prayer is not always as easy as it sounds because often it is in that time that God calls us to action- action that means putting our own comfort and silence on the line. I am the product of former generations that chose prayer and unity, though textbooks have erased that part. Although those kinds of revolutions are never televised, the redemption that takes place can never be ignored and generations to come always eat of its good fruit. 2 Chronicles 7:14 Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
