People want to know what JK did with Rs 1111 Cr central grants: BJP ‘Politicians real beneficiaries, masses left in lurch’ Srinagar, Oct 15 (KNS): Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) on wednesday demandedthat JK government should come clear on Rs 1111 crore central grant whichreached JK since 1990 as people want to know how these funds were utilizedand who were the real beneficiaries? In a statement issued to KNS The BJP spokesman Khalid Jehangir said,“During past 24-years Jammu and Kashmir has received crore of rupees fromcentre for various developmental activities across the state. However,successive regimes never came clear on what they did with the money.” He said, “From 1990 to 2002 state received around Rs 38,5713 cr grants fromthe centre. In 2002 JK got Rs 4577 cr from the central government. Inaddition to these grants centre has provided Rs 30,000 cr to the state toundertake various developmental works in JK.” He said in addition to these funds, centre gives ex-gratia relief to peoplekilled in militancy related incidents and provides special relief toKashmiri migrants.Jehangir said, “In 2009 -10 JK government received Rs 13,256 crore grantsfrom centre which constitutes 60% of states total expenditure. In 2013Government of India approved Rs 7300 crore annual plan for JK. In additionto it Rs 600 crore were given to the state under Prime Minister’sReconstruction Plan.”He said despite centre pumping in so much of money no development isvisible on the ground. “Tall claims of the JK Government about health sector being its priorityhave proved to be an illusion as the sector is in shambles. Till datesuccessive regimes have only made tall promises as nothing has been done onground,” he added. Jehangir said that Jammu and Kashmir is the only state in the country whichhas got one of the poorest road networks. “Roads across the state continueto be in shambles. Many far flung villages still without proper roadconnectivity,” he added. Jehangir expressed dismay over the fact that no such extraordinarydevelopment has taken place during all these years which people canappreciate. He alleged the funds which were granted by the centre during all theseyears have been “swindled” by the power hungry politicians and others fortheir own development. “People who have been in power during all these years have amassed hugewealth and have built palatial bungalows in and outside the state and evenin the foreign countries. They are the ones who have really got benefitteddue to the central grants,” he said. Jehangir said that people want to know what the rulers have done with Rs1111cr which were sent to JK by the centre during the past 24-years. “Lackof accountability and misrule are the two main reasons for JK being pushedto edge,” he added.(KNS)
