Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirants in the South East on Saturday appeared before a screening panel in Enugu. The event, which held at the PDP South East zonal office, was attended by all the governorship aspirants in Enugu, Imo, Ebonyi and Abia states. Imo State had the largest number of aspirants with about 18 gubernatorial hopefuls, including the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha. Another member of the House of Representatives, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who has been selected as the consensus candidate, also appeared before the panel alongside his rivals, including the chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, Senator Ayogu Eze, Chinedu Onuh, Anayo Onwuegbu and the Speaker of Enugu State House of Assembly, Eugene Odo. Like Enugu State, Abia State also has about six governorship aspirants. Earlier, Eze had promised to run an inclusive government if elected as the governor of Enugu State in 2015. The Senator made the pledge while addressing supporters who came to receive him shortly before he attended the screening exercise. The Senator said every resident of Enugu State, including non-indigenes, would be carried along by his administration. According to him, non-indegenes have contributed immensely to the development of the state and as such are entitled to the same measure of public service as the indigenes. Assuring that he is open to consultations, the gubernatorial hopeful said his phone numbers would be available to members of the public. Promising that he would establish an enabling environment for job creation, Eze said justice and equity would be the watchword of his administration. Eze further promised to change the face of Enugu State and ensure that it re-assumes its status as the capital of the old Eastern region.
