Per-capita income growth compared with other development indicators in Uganda Per-capita income growth is normally associated with growth in other development indicators such as absolute poverty, literacy rates, proportion of children immunised and percentage debt service, among others. Most of these indicators have improved in line with increasing per capita, for example poverty head count has declined to 19.7% in 2012/13, compared to 24.5 % in 2009/10; ratio of girls to boys in secondary education increased to 1.1 in 2010/11; and proportion seats held by women in parliament increased to 35% in 2011/12[vi]. However, some indicators have remained unchanged or experienced insignificant change for example net enrolment ratio in primary education (81.8%); literacy rate of 15-24 year-olds (76%); only 76% are immunised against measles; and proportion of 15-24 year olds who have comprehensive knowledge of HIV/AIDS remained at 38.8%.
