Perhaps as you get older, you get more sentimental about the holidays. Christmas isnt what it once was for me. No secret here--i miss my parents and I miss them everyday. Christmas was Dads holiday....he loved the gift giving and would save his spare change to make sure presents were both meaningful and plentiful. Even during the depression when money was tight...he and my brother would talk about the marvelous Christmas celebrations that would take place out on River Road. Mom never showed much emotion...But I remember once when I managed to get a cartoon caricature of her drawn, had it matted and framed...and she laughed so hard she cried. I also recall the Christmas dinners that would grow into double digit attendance. Mom and Dad, my Grandfather and Grandmother; eventually, Monica would join me; my Brother Ed and his wife Barb and their children Linda and Tom; Harriet, a lonely and blind elderly lady that our family befriended; sometime Mom;s siblings and their families. The Dinner table would stretch from the dining room into the living room. I would fry oysters and marvel at how many of those my Grandfather would eat and proclaim after eating each one, Those are good! Those are the kind of memories that are gifts for the ages. Today, while I celebrate the gift of the Christ child to our world, I live with the memories of Christmas past and realize that time moves on....life plunges ahead and I am thankful for my family and friends......Merry Christmas to each of you...May you be touched by the love of family and friends; may your wants, wishes and desires be met in a fashion that keeps you happy, but also humble and thankful; and may God always have a place in your heart!!
