Period of Peril, Washington Elites are Gunning for Social Security and Medicare Some media outlets stand with their readers, some stand against them. On October 14, the Washington Post ran an editorial chastising the Department of Justice for its crackdown on the career criminals at JP Morgan Chase. After its $6 billion loss in the London Whale fiasco, the Chinese bribery scandal, wrongful foreclosures and more, the Post thinks the DOJ’s $13 billion fine for JP Morgan’s role in helping to collapse the global economy is political persecution? But the Post sings a different tune when the millionaires and billionaires are gunning for the American people. On October 19, the Post called for a budget deal that cuts “entitlements” -- Social Security, Medicare and veterans benefits -- and warns Democrats not to demand higher taxes as part of the deal. At CMD we stand with our readers, not against them. As the debt ceiling loomed, we warned vets that the monuments were not the biggest issue: Congress was gunning for their Social Security and VA benefits. We sent up red flags when Erskine Bowles, Alan Simpson, and the Fix the Debt bandits went back on air with new TV ads. We warned of the “Koch O Nuts,” brought to you by David and Charles Koch, who bankrolled obstruction of the compromise health care reform legislation, the Affordable Care Act, which pushed the nation to the brink of default. When the billionaires come for Social Security and try to create fake generational wars with phony youth groups, like Pete Peterson’ “The Can Kicks Back” and the Koch Brother’s “Generation Opportunity,” we will be there to expose them. Make no mistake, the recent deal to end the government shutdown sets up a series of deadlines for a budget deal and too many Democrats are happy to put critical benefit programs that you have earned on the table for cuts. CMD is not bankrolled by the billionaires. We accept no government or corporate funding. https://facebook/CenterforMediaandDemocracy
