Perks Ponderings:FB asked Whats on your mind? I have been thinking about Common Core. Although, I do not have a child in school, friends and families have children and one day I may have grandkids. But anyway, this seems to be playing out like the health care program did. Differing opinions on it and I respect that. My concern with it and Common Core is the way they are being rolled out. The politicians stated that we would find out what was in it after it was passed. No one apparently read it. I understand the desire to help those who truly are not able to get healthcare, but the way it was handled is puzzling to me. We are being surprised by all the little things buried in the guts of the law. Most troubling is the fact that politicians do not have to abide by the same law that they deem is good for us. It just seems like we were railroaded. Now comes Common Core, another federal mandate that the states are buying into. Just read where a BESE committee is meeting to discuss the issue and the public is not invited. Education has always been a local issue. Another troubling fact is, it is reported as being about raising standards and abilities of the students. But when you get into the inner workings, so much more is being introduced. Things, I think a lot of people would question, but we are not hearing about it as we should hear it reported. We hear more news about junk, I really aint interested in. I know this may sound like I am paranoid or I see conspiracies in everything. I try to be logical and level headed and in a right frame of mind. Research this issue yourself. Dont depend on news media and opponents or proponents to decide the issue for you. Google it, You tube it, A constitutional republic depends on an informed public to make decisions. We should care. My/Our apathy is not good for this country. Sulphur just had an election on an issue concerning its school system and only 12% of the voters voted. They are not alone. Stay informed, research things. I can accept your opinion about an issue even if it is contrary to mine. Even if you support an issue that I am against. I defend your right to express that opinion. Thats the way it should be in the USA. Just sayin.
