Permaculture Design Course at Harmony Park. August 26 - September 2, 2013 Permaculture is the design of human habitats and food production systems that mimic patterns found in nature. It is the harmonious integration of human dwellings, annual and perennial plants, animals, and water into stable, productive ecosystems. The focus is not just on these elements themselves, but rather in the relationships created among them by the way we place them in the landscape. This course provides you with tools to design and develop urban or rural properties, revitalize local communities, and restore ecological balance. By understanding nature’s patterns, you will learn how to grow food, manage water catchment and storage, utilize renewable energy and build community. This course will also provide you with models of community by which to can create networks of support and empower others to do the same. Areas covered during the course include: Permaculture principles Concepts and themes in design The local ecosystem Forms of eco-gardening and farming Broad scale site design The application of specific methods, laws and principles to design Pattern understanding Climatic factors Plants and trees and their energy interactions Water, soils, earth-working and earth resources Zone and sector analysis Food forests and small animal husbandry Harvest and natural forests Aquaculture Planning the homestead Structures and the built environment Craftwork and chores Equipment, tools and vehicles Renewable energy and energy conservation Waste management and recycling Permaculture strategies for different climates Urban and suburban Permaculture Small farm & garden management & marketing Strategies of an alternative global nation Practical work on design Instructor: Wayne Weiseman is certified as an instructor of the Permaculture Design Certificate Course by Bill Mollison, the originator of Permaculture and head of The Permaculture Institute of Australia. He has taught more than 100 Permaculture Design Courses and lectured internationally for many years. Wayne is Director of The Permaculture Project LLC (permacultureproject), a full-service, international consulting and educational business promoting the ideas of eco-agriculture, renewable energy resources and eco-construction methods. For many years he managed a land-based, self-reliant community project combining organic crop/food production, ecologically-built shelter, renewable energy, appropriate technologies. Tuition: The course tuition fee is $995. Space in this course is limited. You can reserve your spot with a non-refundable deposit of $200. Early Bird Rate: Register before July 1st for $895. Bring a Buddy Rate: Sign up with a buddy and you each save $50. Tuition Includes: The Permaculture Design Certificate (With this certificate a graduate may confidently use the word ‘Permaculture’ in the promotion of their work or business.) Rosemary Morrow’s “Earth User’s Guide to Permaculture” (The course text) Meals: 3 meals a day + snacks. Our chef will do her best to accommodate your dietary needs. Lodging: Tent or RV camping. There are hot showers available. Electricity and water are situated at various locations on site. We ask that campfires are restricted to the community fire.
