Permission to post: PHOTO CONTEST UNITED ILIGAN FOR SENDONG in coordination with the City Government of Iligan, Office of Rep. Varf Belmonte, Kodak Express and The Umbrella: Iligan’s Joint Photographers Club presents “Sendong: Then and Now” Photo Contest Contest Mechanics: 1. Theme: Each entry should show, in two photographs, the devastation brought about by Typhoon Sendong in the first photo, and what happened three years later in the second photo. Thus, the first photo should have been taken during or shortly after Typhoon Sendong, starting in the evening of December 16, 2011 up to January 31, 2012. The second picture should be of the same subject but taken in the present, specifically, starting December 1, 2014 until deadline of submission of entries. Subjects could be people, artificial structures (e.g., houses, buildings, infrastructure, etc.), or nature (e.g., trees, rivers, mountains, etc.). 2. The contest is open to anybody, residents of Iligan or not. 3. Each participating photographer can submit up to three sets of entries. 4. Entries must be taken digitally, either using a cell/smartphone, tablet or digital camera. 5. No digital tweaking or post processing of any kind is allowed, except minimal cropping and resizing, because the photographs have to be printed at 5x7 inches. So there can no further post processing is allowed (no HDR, no altering of brightness / contrast / levels / color / etc.) The digital images should be printed as they are. We have made arrangements with our sponsor to print your files using their default settings. 6. Effects achieved by using specialized filters (infrared, etc.), lenses (lensbaby, circular fisheye, etc.) and similar devices are not allowed. But commonly used filters like UV, Skylight, Polarizer and Neutral Density (including graduated) are allowed. 7. Entries shall be in color. Not black-and-white, not monochrome. 8. For the second picture (the present), date & time imprints, or any other markings on the photograph, including watermarks, are not allowed. So turn off that date/time imprint in your camera’s settings. 9. The photographer retains copyright of the images submitted for the contest, but the sponsors shall be granted the right to reproduce the photos for Sendong/disaster-related activities. The photographer will be credited for photos used in all publications. 10. Submit only pictures you took yourself. Be honest please. And only pictures taken within Iligan City are allowed. 11. The two pictures in each entry should be in the same orientation – i.e., either both horizontal (or landscape mode), or both vertical (portrait mode). Both pictures shall be printed on an A4-sized (210x297mm or 8.267x11.692in) photo paper, with the old picture on the left or top, and the new picture on the right or bottom. 12. Deadline of submission of entries will be 6 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2011, at Kodak Express Gaisano Mall. Judging will be at the City Public Plaza the following day starting at 2 p.m. 13. There will be three major winners and seven honorable mentions. Prizes are as follows: First – P3,000; Second – P2,000; 3rd – P1,500; honorable mention – P500 each. 14. Judging will be based on the following critera: Relevance to the theme: 40%; Visual impact: 40%; Artistry and technical excellence: 20%. The judges’ decision is final. 13. Kodak Express will provide framed photos for the major winners, with their names on it and information about the contest, while the honorable mentions will get certificates. Kodak Express will also provide discounts in the printing.
