"Persistant unforgiveness can produce bitter and dysfunctional people. It is impossible to be whole if we are preoccupied with revenge. We should not pretend that past hurts do not exists; instead we must seek resolution. The energy given to anger could be applied to intimacy. In many ways anger is a way to hold on to inappropriate relationships instead of being a way to end them. Our impatience, judgementalism, perfectionism and compulsiveness can often be traced to a vengeful mind set. Forgiveness frees us from the past hurts and disappointments and offers new attitudes that are more positive and less self-defeating."
