Perspective: Being a single dad when your youngest lives 350 miles away! When I was first divorced I read a book with statistics that said that a high percentage of fathers lose contact with their kids as time goes on. I vowed never to let that happen. Her mother and I get along, and for that I am most thankful to her for being so flexible with my somewhat crazy work schedule. Im also grateful to her husband who has done so much in helping to raise her. Doesnt mean weve had disagreements, but weve worked things out. Working as a court reporter Ive been witness to some very stupid parents in divorce cases. That being said, when with my kids I always wanted to be doing something. Some call it the fun dad. If thats a crime, guilty as charged! I would rather create a memory rather than spend money on some gadget that over time gets forgotten. As the visitation week approached, I asked my daughter what she would like to do. I dunno was always the answer! I would say lets go to California and take one of my granddaughters! Lets go to Vegas and see if we can see a show. We stayed home. We saw 3 movies, watched more at home, went through old pictures and some videos, played with the grandkids a lot, and had some great conversations! Shes 15, and since she was my youngest, I thought the statistics I mentioned before would start to come true. I mean, what teenager wants to hang with her dad? ONE OF THE BEST WEEKS EVER! I dont write this for my own gratification, just some thoughts. I choose not to post their names here, but for those who know them, theyre pretty awesome! I love you guys, and thanks for being there for me!
