Perth just keeps getting further ahead of Auckland. It built its CRL equivalent in the 1990s and is now building the airport rail Auckland is projecting for 2025-2030. This is all despite having less density than Auckland and roughly the same population. It does have the same geographical advantages as Auckland for rail though - a long skinny form that means most people are within a few kms of a train station.
